Gliding

Gliding is an aviation sport that represents the essence of silent flight, precision, and advanced piloting skills. It is performed using gliders—engine-less aircraft that rely entirely on natural air currents, such as thermals and dynamic lift, to stay airborne. Gliding is considered one of the purest forms of aviation, where knowledge, experience, and spatial awareness are the key elements of successful flight.

This sport requires a high level of technical expertise, discipline, and concentration, while offering a unique sense of freedom, calm, and deep connection with the natural environment. Gliding develops precision, strategic thinking, and responsibility, and it is often used as a foundation for further aviation education and professional pilot careers.

Beyond its competitive aspect, gliding has a strong educational and developmental role, particularly for young people, contributing to the development of technical culture, safety awareness, and a lasting interest in aviation.

Through the organization of gliding camps and competitions, INOS actively contributes to the revival and development of gliding in North Macedonia. Our mission is to support this sport as a platform for knowledge exchange, safe flying practices, international cooperation, and the sustainable use of natural resources, creating new opportunities for aviation sports and education in the region.

In line with the development of this sport in the region, INOS organized an International Gliding Camp in September 2022, the first event of its kind in the region, which attracted participants from across the Balkans. In 2024, INOS also organized a Glider Precision Landing Competition, further contributing to the promotion and advancement of gliding in the region.
